Évolution de la télévision numérique et convergence.Bernard CaronVice-president of the Broadcast Technology Branch Communications Research Centre (CRC) Recent developments in the field of digital television technologies have greatly contributed to the introduction of a variety of new video services, including digital television, high definition television (HDTV), and interactive television. These modifications are transforming the way we think about television. The digitization of video signals and more sophisticated video compression techniques are giving consumers the ability to watch their favourite programs anytime, anywhere. Telephone and mobile networks are now used to distribute television signals. At the same time, the infrastructure used to distribute digital television and radio can also be used to transmit all sorts of multimedia applications, whether interactive or not. This progress will radically transform the relationship between user and broadcast content. It will pose interesting challenges for the design of new general public interfaces. Our presentation will show among other things the contributions made by the Communications Research Center in this domain, as well as the work done by CRC laboratories on the subjective evaluation of sound and video. |
